Moscow, July 1, 2024 – At Sredneuralskaya GRES of PJSC EL5-Energo a technical re-equipment of turbine generator No. 7 under the program of competitive capacity selection of KOMMod modernization projects has been successfully completed. The modernized unit was put into a commercial operation 6 months earlier than planned. The project implementation resulted in an increase in turbine capacity from 100 to 120 MW, as well as a 15 g/kWh reduction of fuel consumption for power generation. The level of localization of the upgraded turbine reached 100%.
The project was selected in 2019 in the second round of the equipment modernization tender launched by the System Operator based on the minimum levelised cost of energy applied by the participants. In line with the tender results, generating company committed to deliver capacity for a 16-year period, and to use equipment compliant with local sourcing requirements in their modernization projects.
The project involved replacement of turbine, generator, transformer, current conductors from generator to transformer at turbines No. 7 and No. 8, relay protection and automation, network water and high-pressure heaters, oil supply system, steam lines of bypass pipes and turbine outlets. More than 1200 tons of equipment, pipelines and steel structures were dismantled and replaced, more than 160 km of cables and almost 800 meters of current conductors were laid for more than 800,000 people/hour.
Sredneuralskaya GRES of PJSC EL5-Energo - the largest thermal gas power plant of total installed electric capacity of 1,578.5 MW - supplies hot water to the main networks of Sredneuralsk, Yekaterinburg and Verkhnyaya Pyshma. The launch of the modernized turbine generator is an important stage in the development of the power plant for the entire region, as it increases the level of reliability of power generation thanks tothe automation of production processes. The next large-scale stage will be the technical re-equipment of turbine generator No. 6. This is the second modernization project at Sredneuralskaya GRES with a large scope of work, including replacement of a 100 MW turbine with a new 120 MW turbine, as well as re-equipment of boiler No. 9 with a capacity of 480 t/h.
