Reservoir fish stocking in the Murmansk region: Kola WPP supports salmon population recovery

On June 5, 2024, Ecologist's Day, representatives of Kola WPP together with the Murmansk branch of Glavrybvod FGBU organized the fish stocking of the Kovdozersky Reservoir in the Murmansk Region for the second time. Stocking is a compensatory reproduction of aquatic biological resources, which allows maintaining the region's natural resources and aims at restoring the population of valuable fish species.

2 247 whitefish fry (family of salmonids) were released into the river. The minors were bred under strict control of specialists of the Murmansk plant Glavrybvod. The weight of each fry is about 10 grams. At this weight, the fry is ready for independent life and free swimming.

The whitefish is a fish of the salmon family that lives mainly in freshwater rivers and lakes and prefers cold and clear water. The Kovdozerskoye Reservoir is therefore ideally suited to its habitat. This is not the first nature conservation activity in the Murmansk Region implemented by Kola WPP. Almost 8 thousand yearlings of Atlantic salmon were released into the Umba River in May 2020 and another 2.3 thousand minors in April 2021. 2.5 thousand whitefish fry were released into the Kovdozerskoye Reservoir for the first time in 2023.

EL5-Energo PJSC, represented by Kola WPP in the region, contributes to nature conservation, environmental protection and support of biodiversity. The fish stocking of lakes and rivers contributes to the improvement of the ecosystem and allows restoring population of valuable fish species.
